Wharton/IGEL is pleased to be a university partner with PRSA. As part of its mission Wharton/IGEL emphasizes how strategic communications impacts leadership in environmental and community citizenship.

The Wharton-led, Penn-wide Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership (IGEL) promotes knowledge for business sustainability. IGEL works with a diverse and interdisciplinary network to develop and disseminate innovative research and business practices, that solve the most pressing environmental issues facing our planet.

IGEL interfaces with top alumni and with academic, corporate, government, and non-government organizations to drive business policies and practices on a global scale. With our partners, IGEL facilitates knowledge for action, life-long learning and impact through world-class research, transformative teaching of future leaders, and public outreach regarding best business practices.

The initiative provides a closed, interactive forum for business leaders with high-level environmental responsibilities to consult together on a regular basis, in addition to academic leaders from Wharton and Penn faculty and selected experts from emerging areas of sustainable business.

IGEL organizes annual conferences that include a hands-on workshop component, and a monthly seminar series where business leaders are invited to speak about the best practices in their field. These events create a two-way conversation between faculty and students, as well as business and NGO professionals.

IGEL coordinates the business and sustainability curriculum for MBA and undergraduate students and works to expand the University’s course offerings in this area. The Wharton MBA and the Masters of Environmental Studies integrates corporate communications and society courses as part of its curriculum. The goal of IGEL is to deliver to students a multitude of perspectives on business sustainability, academic advising, internship opportunities and networking opportunities. Additionally, IGEL facilitates and sponsors student research.
