Karen Mateo Joins PRSA as Chief Communications Officer

NEW YORK, February 26, 2019 – PRSA announced today the appointment of Karen Mateo as Chief Communications Officer.

An accomplished communications professional with 20+ years’ experience in media relations, crisis management, brand building and public affairs, Mateo will be responsible for developing and implementing the Society’s overall strategic communication goals. She reports to Joseph P. Truncale, Ph.D., CAE, PRSA’s Chief Executive Officer.

Mateo most recently served as SVP for North 6th Agency, an award-winning media relations and social media agency based in New York and Toronto. Prior to N6A, she was SVP of Communications for CBS Radio, where she was responsible for all internal and external communications functions for the division’s 120+ radio stations and portfolio of digital media properties. She was honored as one of Radio Ink magazine’s Most Influential Women in Radio six years in a row.

She also served as the Director of Communications for CBS 2 New York, and as a senior press representative for CBS Sports, a division of the CBS Television Network, where she was the lead publicist for the Network’s coverage of college basketball, including the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, and college football.

Mateo graduated from St. John’s University, and currently resides in New York City.
