PRSSA Grants Charter to Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, Establishing First University Chapter in Puerto Rico

Agreement Advances Organization’s Dynamic Growth and Expansion

NEW YORK, July 30, 2019 – PRSSA, the foremost organization for students interested in the public relations and communications fields, announced today that it has granted a charter to Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, one of the oldest, largest and most respected universities in Puerto Rico. This charter creates PRSSA’s first Puerto Rico-based Chapter, a significant step in the organization’s continuing mission to build a robust, widespread network of students at institutions of higher learning.

“This is a thrilling and important new step for PRSSA because it allows us to engage students in Puerto Rico in a way we never have before,” said Jeneen Garcia, Executive Director, PRSSA. “We are looking forward to working closely with the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón as they join the organization and start taking advantage of our wealth of programs and opportunities.”

Founded in 1880 as an elementary school dedicated to the education of women by the religious order of the Catholic Church known as “Religiosas del Sagrado Corazón,” Universidad del Sagrado Corazón is now one of Puerto Rico’s most prestigious private and nonprofit universities. The University offers associate, bachelor, professional post-bachelor certificate and master’s degree programs in: Communication, Business Administration, Humanities, Nursing, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. It also offers Continuing Education programs, short-term courses, workshops and training opportunities.

“On behalf of our University, we are honored to receive the PRSSA charter to establish the Sagrado Chapter,” said Dr. Gabriel Paizy, Director, Ferré Rangel School of Communication. “This is another milestone for our University in our efforts to provide students with practical experiences, networking and mentorship opportunities with industry professionals.”

“Our University has been a key player in advancing the PR profession from the academic arena for more than three decades,” said Dr. Wanda Del Toro, faculty adviser, Sagrado Chapter of PRSSA. “The Sagrado Chapter of PRSSA opens new opportunities for our students to develop practical experiences beyond the classroom scenario, strengthen leadership skills, and become part of a national network of students and practitioners.”

The Sagrado Chapter will be supported by PRSA Georgia, which will help foster student and professional connections by providing speakers, networking opportunities, career mentoring and other opportunities.
