PRSA Surpasses Fundraising Goal To Endow Multicultural Scholarship

PepsiCo Makes $20,000 Donation In Support Of Diverse Students
Preparing For A Career In Public Relations

NEW YORK, October 28, 2020 – PRSA, the nation’s leading professional organization serving the communications community, announced today it has reached the $50,000 goal needed to establish the PRSA Multicultural Scholarship Endowment following a successful fundraising concert event last evening sponsored by PepsiCo. The scholarship assists and recognizes young men and women from underrepresented backgrounds for outstanding academic achievement and their commitment to the practice of public relations.

“We are beyond thrilled to reach this important milestone, which will help guarantee that diverse students get the chance to continue their education and embark on careers as communications professionals,” said T. Garland Stansell, APR, PRSA 2020 Chair. “We are beyond humbled by the generosity of all who donated to this very worthy cause.”

Added Felicia Blow, APR, Co-Chair of PRSA’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, “On behalf of the full Committee, we would like to thank the PRSA Minnesota Chapter for donating the seed funding and PepsiCo for their contribution. There were so many donors and supporters of this movement and we would not have been successful without their involvement, especially including PRSA and PRSSA leadership.”

PRSA’s Multicultural Scholarship was established in 1989 and currently provides two $1500 awards each year. Students from colleges and universities across the country have benefitted from the program since its debut.

Since the beginning of 2020, PRSA has set in motion a number of important steps as part of its 2020-2022 Strategic Plan to improve diversity and inclusion representation and education, including the creation of a detailed D&I strategy, the launch of the Diverse Dialogues webinar series, and the debut of Mentor Connect to support students and new professionals by matching them with an experienced professional from within PRSA.
