Margaret Grover has been practicing employment law in California since the mid 1980s. During that time, she has represented both employers and employees, served as an expert witness, conducted workplace investigations, and assisted parties in resolving cases. Ms. Grover has conducted approximately 10 jury trials, 15 bench trials, and over 100 arbitrations and administrative hearings.
Maggie enjoys helping both employers and employees understand the complexities of employment laws and regulations. She has provided workplace training and mediation to assure that all participants understand the applicable laws and can effectively communicate regarding working conditions. She encourages early discussion of concerns, so that problems are resolved promptly and litigation can be avoided.
Over the past 25 years, she has performed an increasing amount of neutral work, serving as a mediator, workplace investigator, trainer, and expert witness. As a mediator, Ms. Grover is dedicated to assuring the fairness of the process. She strives to assure that all parties are engaged in and understand the mediation process. She understands that both the employer and the employee may have deeply rooted feelings about the claims. Her years of litigation experience and teaching background are invaluable in helping the parties to understand the possible outcomes and to weigh the settlement opportunities presented by alternative dispute resolution.
In 2011 and 2012, Maggie served as chair of the Conference of California Bar Associations (CCBA), a statewide association of attorney volunteers who work to improve the laws of California by drafting, debating, and promoting creative, non-partisan changes to the law. In 2022, Maggie was honored to receive the CCBA’s Pfeiffer Award, given annually to a person of the highest integrity and professional excellence, with a passion for giving and service for a more just society through the law.
Maggie is on the board of the Northern California Employment Roundtable, a group composed of volunteers from businesses, public and private employers, and labor organizations, which was formed to educate employers about workplace discrimination harassment and to promote equal employment opportunity. She was an active participant in the San Francisco Mayor’s Task Force on Sexual Harassment, crafting the City’s first harassment prevention policy and training program. In 1994, she was a Bar Association of San Francisco delegate to the United Nations Non-Governmental Organization forum in Beijing, where she led training sessions on preventing workplace harassment.
Maggie enjoys speaking and writing. She has authored chapters in books published by the American Bar Association and California Continuing Education of the Bar covering a variety of topics, including employment policies, workplace investigations, harassment prevention, and privacy.
During her free time, Maggie loves to bake and has created more than 10 varieties of chocolate cheesecake. To balance her love of baking, Ms. Grover spends time rowing and riding her bicycle. She has completed the Death Ride twice, biked from the Canadian border to the Bay Area, and stroked a boat at the Head of the Charles. Maggie currently coaches for Oakland United Rowing, which supports athletes from multiple Oakland, California high schools.
