Jamie Hampton is the CEO of an award-winning San Diego public relations company that supports clients who fight for racial, social and environmental justice. She’s also white and privileged.
One day, she looked in the mirror and asked herself the tough questions: Why is my staff white and mostly female? Jamie has learned that it’s not enough to settle for doing awesome work, even if the nature of that work stands up for human rights. She knows it’s time for businesses to take a lead on cultural values and to develop an industry inclusive of diversity -- that takes awareness, courage and intention.
Jamie and her team at Mixte won PR Team of the Year in 2019 for its commitment to values-based work, including launching and incubating a social enterprise agency model that offers paid job training to refugees and Immigrants to open career opportunities for them and welcome diversity to the industry.
