Najuma Thorpe figured out that she wanted to do communications somewhere around eighth grade when she was the keynote speaker at a student council workshop. She now has more than 20 years of experience in helping organizations meet their goals through internal and external communications strategies. She has a wide variety of expertise in organizational communications, crisis management, public relations and marketing. Najuma is also an experienced trainer and motivational speaker in the areas of leadership and personal development. 

Currently, Najuma is director of communications and stakeholder engagement at U.S. Steel and an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned a bachelor’s degrees from UNC in journalism (concentrating in public relations) and psychology. She received a master’s degree in organizational communications from Bowie State University and a MBA (concentrating in marketing) from Strayer University.
