Tom Unger, ABC, CTM, ACB, APR, Fellow PRSA
Tom Unger, ABC, APR, Fellow PRSA, has more than 50 years of experience in journalism, public relations, and corporate communications in Oregon, California, and British Columbia. His career includes roles in internal and external communications at some of the largest health care and financial services companies in the nation.
In his free time, he has taught communications at four colleges, lectured at national communication conferences, and contributed chapters to two communications books.
Tom joined PRSA in 1989. He has volunteered on the board of its Oregon chapter for many years, serving as its president in 2009. He is one of the few communicators in the United States accredited by PRSA, IABC, and Toastmasters International. PRSA inducted Tom into its College of Fellows in 2012.
Since semi-retiring in 2018, Tom has provided writing services and workshops to companies, community groups, universities, and government agencies. He has also presented business writing workshops offered by the American Management Association.
Tom has earned about 30 local, regional and national communication awards.
He also received lifetime achievement awards from the Portland chapters of PRSA and IABC.
In 2022, Tom served on the editorial team that produced PRSA’s award-winning 75th anniversary book.
Tom earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri and a Professional Designation in Public Relations from UCLA.
