Expanding Horizons: APR en Espanol
For years, expanding the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) has meant making resources accessible in Spanish, recognizing the vast potential to inform about the benefits of Accreditation internationally. In 2024, Ana Toro, APR, Fellow PRSA, member of UAB’s Examination & Preparation Workgroup, championed this effort, proposing the translation of preparation materials—a move that earned unanimous support from the Universal Accreditation Board.
Ana took a strategic approach, auditing resources and identifying 18 priority materials, categorized into high, medium, and low priority for translation and adaptation in 2024.
With support from Olga Mayoral-Wilson, APR, Fellow PRSA, Ana led the translation effort. The first batch of materials —exam FAQs, candidate process chart and “Steps to APR” PowerPoint, among others—is now available. The pages include quotes from Spanish-speaking APRs that ensure diversity of professionals across the site.
“Translating APR resources into Spanish opens doors to new talent and global partnerships,” Toro shared. “This effort strengthens our industry by making Accreditation more accessible.”
In 2025, the initiative will continue with the APR Study Guide, panel presentation materials, and the list of KSAs.
As UAB works to expand the APR recognition beyond PRSA, providing Spanish-language resources marks a major step forward to
improve the general understanding of the APR/APR+M designation, and a new chapter to expand our horizons globally.
