To increase your productivity and improve your health, try “habit stacking,” says an article from Entrepreneur. Consistently combining small, manageable actions into daily routines can help form good habits and accomplish more in a given time frame.

According to James Clear, author of "Atomic Habits," habit stacking involves loading a new habit on top of a current one — a tool to maximize time and efficiency.

Try a morning digital detox to improve focus, creativity and overall well-being, the article says. Also, if you exercise first thing in the morning, make sure not to use your phone during the workout — avoid scrolling on your phone to help keep your mind clear and help you stay focused.

Rather than multitasking, habit stacking encourages pairing two things together in an effort to form a new daily practice.

This can also include meditating for one minute after brewing your coffee or saying something you’re grateful for before eating a meal. The article says, “Morning routines are critical for productivity and positivity. "

While cooking and eating a healthy breakfast, try to regularly listen to a podcast, make a call, read a book, or look through longer reports, documents or emails.

Also try to have walking meetings with a work colleague; the movement and endorphins can help you develop new ideas or solve problems.

Another habit-stacking idea is to call someone to check in or offer your support during the time you’re in transit from picking up the kids from school or going to a meeting or event. Letting someone know you’re thinking of them can make their day. Having strong friendships and making time for friends, family and co-workers on a personal level can make us happier and more productive, the article says.

Think about something you want to do or achieve — whether it’s reading more, making a less chaotic morning routine or catching up with friends. “Be specific and set a specific cue for how you’ll stack a habit. Start small,” Entrepreneur suggests. Here are some more tips to eliminate decision fatigue and be the most effective with your daily routines.

  1. Move + digital detox in the morning
  2. Eat healthy + enjoy podcasts or reading
  3. Think creatively + get sunlight and steps
  4. Stay mobile + practice mindfulness
  5. Focus on others + reach out
