If you’re an emotional sponge, you’ve come to the right place. Such individuals, commonly known as “highly sensitive people,” make up about 15 to 20 percent of the world’s population, according to Psychology Today. Dr. Elaine Aron coined the term in the early 1990s, when she began researching the temperaments of highly sensitive people.
HSPs have a personality trait known as “sensory-processing sensitivity,” which makes you more sensitive to external and internal stimuli. Often, we’re seen as introverted, shy, awkward and easily upset. In reality, many highly sensitive people are trying to manage their vibrant inner lives.
