PRSA Launches Website to Commemorate 75th Anniversary

In 2022, PRSA is celebrating 75 years. Strategies & Tactics will highlight the contributions of the organization and milestones in the profession, as well as past, current and future generations of practitioners.
PRSA has unveiled a new section on its website to recognize 75 years of advancing the profession and the professional. The dedicated anniversary section showcases PRSA highlights, leadership through the years, celebrations, programs and sponsors.
Here are five key dates in PRSA’s history:
- 1947 — PRSA charters its first Chapters: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Honolulu, and Detroit. (PRSA added Chicago in 1948.)
- 1949 — PRSA publishes its first code of professional standards, addressing “responsibility for the good character and reputation of the public relations professional.”
- 1950 — PRSA adopts its first code of ethics to provide its members with guidance on the ethical practice of the profession. To this day, the PRSA Code of Ethics applies to PRSA members and serves as a valuable guide for them as they carry out their ethical responsibilities.
- 1964 — Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) commences. As the profession’s only national post-graduate certification program, the APR designation signifies a high level of skill and competency in the public relations.
- 1967 — The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) debuts as the foremost organization for students interested in public relations and communications.
