Staying Healthy During a Protracted Job Search

The mental health toll my job search has caused has taken me by surprise. I never expected the search to drag on so long. Looking for a new job and getting no offers is demoralizing.
The job market has changed over the last decade. Gone are the days when you could be certain to find a job quickly. Now, job searches move at a turtle’s pace along an uncertain path.
Even strong candidates aren’t guaranteed success. The grind of making lists of your top companies, conducting research, sending out résumés and undergoing multiple rounds of job interviews over a period of several weeks can lead you down a long, dark road when all that effort brings no results.
