The Power of the Inverted Pyramid

There’s an old proverb that says, “Those who tell stories rule the world.” It’s always been that way. In fact, scientists have even said that our brains are “hardwired” to process and retain information when it’s presented to us in a narrative format.
So, why isn’t the C-suite filled with great storytellers — captivating investors, employees and other stakeholders with their company’s vision?
The answer: Storytelling isn’t taught in business schools. Yes, a few — like Wharton, Columbia and the Kellogg School of Management offer courses in storytelling to MBA students as an elective, but it’s rare. As a result, many business leaders lack this skill.
However, the gap in storytelling skills isn’t limited to the C-suite alone; it’s a challenge within the communications field, too.
